Services
Dr. Lori Woodring offers the following services as part of her practice:
Child Therapy
Dr. Woodring specializes in treating children (toddlers through early adolescence) and parents in individual and group settings. With more than 15 years of clinical experience, Dr. Woodring realizes that while life has many challenging moments, parenting is full of them. Children’s struggles may include school and academic difficulties, social or emotional problems, relationship difficulties with peers or family members, difficult life transitions (such as relocation, divorce, illness or loss) or typical developmental and daily conflicts for which they need support. Though as parents we do our best to create a conflict and stress-free environment for our kids, they will inevitably face obstacles and struggles along the way.
Dr. Woodring believes involving parents in the treatment process yields the most beneficial and lasting growth. She provides a safe, caring and fun environment for kids to express themselves. A typical child session lasts approximately 45 minutes and the final 15 minutes is spent with the parent(s). Parent meetings can also be held via phone after the child session. She works collaboratively with children, parents, families, and when necessary, teachers, physicians, psychiatrists, educational consultants and other therapists for comprehensive understanding and care. Her goal is to empower children and parents with knowledge and strategies to address the presenting problem, as well as any future challenges, with a healthy and productive mindset.
Dr. Woodring tailors her treatment approach to meet the needs of each individual child and family. She utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques including cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, talk therapy, play therapy and behavioral analysis and planning.
Family Therapy
Dr. Woodring offers family counseling or parent-child counseling which aims to promote understanding and collaboration among family members in order to solve the problems of one or more individuals.
Parent Sessions
At times working primarily with parents on issues regarding parenting, child-rearing and family dynamics and concerns can yield the most efficient and effective results.
Parenting Groups
Dr. Woodring offers parenting groups for parents interested in practicing positive parenting techniques in a supportive group environment promoting peer collaboration and support.
School Consultations
Dr. Woodring has worked in both the Stamford and Westport Public Schools as a school psychologist. When applicable she is happy to do school visits or consultations.
